Our First Fused Glass
Experiments..
.
While in Maui in 2007, we took a "glass fusing & slumping" class and confirmed what we
have long suspected...It's not as hard as you think, and it's a lot of fun and something we
would like to do in the future.  Don't be surprised if our next house has a glass kiln.

To create fused glass art, one assembles pieces of glass, generally laying the out on top
of a base glass piece, and then it is "fused" in a kiln at something like 1500 degree
farenheit.  We each made one or two tiles and a plate.  Our instructor, Josh Cox, fused the
work in his kiln overnight and we saw the results the next day.  Loads of fun and a
fascinating hobby we will have someday..
Maria's plate..two layers of round clear glass with color glass elements on top.
Fused, then slumped.

AJ's tile and pendants, one layer of clear glass with a full layer of tightly fit
colored glass pieces on top.
AJ's "frit experiment"    tile made with a single layer of clear glass with a white
glass border on top (acts as a "dam" for interior) and glass powder "frit" in the
middle....design is meant to portray the "Lahaina" which means "merciless sun" in
Maui.
